Founder
Grand Master
Se Yong Chang
U.S. Taekwondo Academy was founded by Grand Master Se Yong Chang in 1982. He was the Maryland State Taekwondo President for 14 years, a Former USA National Team Coach Manager for Jr. World Championships in Greece, and is now the President of the U.S. Taekwondo Scholarship Foundation. In 1995, he was the first individual to officially create "Taekwondo Day" in Baltimore City by Mayor Kurt Schmoke. A year later, he created "Taekwondo Day" in the state of Maryland by Governor Paris Glendening. These events were recorded as the 1st in the World. Now, he holds an annual competition in October in celebration of Taekwondo Day, where all proceeds go directly into the U.S. Taekwondo Scholarship Foundation, which goes back to the Taekwondo Community. He has produced countless National champions, including his son, Master CJ Chang, and daughter, Master Jennifer Chang-Pasion, who are both former U.S. National Taekwondo Team Members.
Master "CJ"
Yong chang
Master CJ started Taekwondo at the age of 3 years old under his father, Grand Master Se Yong Chang. Not only is he a Former Senior U.S. National Team Member and Former U.S. Collegiate National Team Member in the sport of Taekwondo, but he was also selected as the U.S. National Men's Team Captain for the 2003 World Universiade Games in Daegu, South Korea. While practicing Taekwondo, he graduated on the Dean's List from George Washington University in 2003. With a passion in Taekwondo and serving his community, he opened a branch in Bel Air, Maryland. Since then, he started "Hopkins Olympic Taekwondo" club in Johns Hopkins University, became President of the Maryland State Taekwondo Association and has worked hand-in-hand with Governor Larry Hogan & First Lady Yumi Hogan in hosting the Maryland Governor's Cup Tournament where all proceeds are donated to the Children's Cancer Foundation.

Master Julia Chang
Master Julia started Taekwondo at the age of 5 under her father, Grand Master Myung Kang, who founded U.S. Taekwondo College in Virginia. Not only is U.S. Taekwondo College a very prestigious school with multiple locations in the surrounding Virginia area, but Grand Master Kang is also a Former President of Virginia State Taekwondo Association. Master Julia graduated in 2003 from George Mason University with a degree in Communications. She operated a Taekwondo studio in Fairfax and joined U.S. Taekwondo Academy in 2012 upon marrying Master CJ and has since been a very influential and integral part of the team. With her knowledge and expertise in Taekwondo, After-School and Summer Camp Programs, coupled with her love and compassion for both children and adults alike, Master Julia has become a favorite teacher here at our Academy.
Master Jennifer
Chang-Pasion
Master Jennifer started Taekwondo at the age of 5 years old under her father, Grand Master Chang. She started competing in the U.S. Junior Olympic Championships at age 6 and found a love for competition. She made the U.S. Junior National Taekwondo Team in 2002 & 2003; placed Silver in the Jr. World Championships (Crete, Greece), and placed Gold & MVP in the Jr. Pan American Games (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). She also won Double Gold & MVP at the 2005 Collegiate National Championships (UC Berkeley) representing the University of Maryland. In 2008, she graduated from University of Maryland College Park and opened her branch in Bel Air, alongside her father and brother. Aside from her love in competitive Olympic-Sport Taekwondo, she enjoys teaching Little Ninjas as young as two years old, just as much as she loves teaching adults who are in their 60's. A firm believer that Taekwondo is beneficial for everyone, she finds Taekwondo most rewarding when students reap the mental benefits of confidence, focus, discipline and self-control.
